Carpeting the interior of your pick up box / bed.

What I've Been Doing With My Quad
04/027/2001

Well.... spring has finally arrived here in Maryland ..it lasts a few days and turns right into summer... short lived ...but enjoyed and appreciated by.... myself ... non the less!

Spring is also the time things get real busy with my line of work .. but I set my priorities to take advantage of this season to do the things I love most. Obviously besides time spent with the family ... is the time spent working on my Quad.

Last fall .. another season..I enjoy ... I got a chance to make some modifications to my lid, box and electrical modifications and supply. This spring I just about completed the next phase of my alterations to my Quad by the installation of carpeting and storage bins to my truck.

Every square inch of the interior of box is carpeted. No ... I didn't forget the
edge trim for the carpet (gate) end.

Some of you may be thinking what the hell is Nick doing carpeting the box of his Quad pickup? .... Well if you've read through this site you would of found out that though I use my truck for work .. I use it for transportation and save the..."beat the hell out of it stuff " for my 1986 Econoline ... and you may also have came across the section where I express my fondness for the outdoors and travelling.

Hardwood edging ads strength to the bin as well as a accent trim.
Interior of box / bin is also carpeted to protect loose equipment. The two
bins add space that would of been hard to utilize .. otherwise,
quick and easy access is the major benefit!

The next phase for this will be the installation of speakers (base and tweeters in different locations) and additional wiring, relays and switches for different functions to better utilize this space for my needs.

I'll have more on carpeting the back box of your pickup (along with electrical and electronic alterations ) on the members site with a lot of ideas about how you can about doing this number on your Dakota Quad Pickup.

I've tried to get the best of two possible worlds in my planing for the use of the box on the end of our pickups. For work I can still haul my tools (they all have their own plastic cases which don't beat up the carpeting) and I can still haul boxed supplies ( light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, tile, etc.) lumber can be hauled on special racks that keep the load secure while not damaging the carpeting.

I'll be working on a roll out storage bin for the box / bed for those of us who just don't want to climb in the box every time they need something in the back.

I'm currently designing and fabricating a special adjustable cargo partition system ... that can lock loads in place in the bed to keep them from shifting.

Update: 05/03/2001

Just completed the designing and fabrication of the cargo partition. At first I had some reservations if it would be worth the trouble ... well I'd like to report ... that it really makes the bed of the truck looks smart and high tech. If it works out to make for better organization, easier access and containment of supplies, gear and equipment ... just half .. as good as it looks .... it would of been well worth the effort.

I'm planing on thoroughly testing it out ... will let you all know how useful it turns out to be. I'll be posting pictures on the upcoming DQCOG site with the different situations and cargo loads ... along with more information on building your own.

Not only is the partition totally adjustable from
the front of the bed to the rear .. to contain gear / packages .. but
the partition itself utilizes strapping so that gear can be lashed

to either side of the partition ... which is great for the stuff thats
to big to put in the bins (above the wheel wells) but to small to
contain in the bed of the pickup.

The neat thing about this partitioning system is it can be broken down ( in a minute ) and stored right on the bottom of the fiberglass lid of the truck ... when I want a clear and clean bed.

"What for?", you're probably thinking. Well that's for the second world .... the world of enjoying the outdoors.

I'll be updating this page .. when time allows, for now I got to go work on something else.

You won't believe what I'm up to next!
