Your Quad

I couldn't help putting this page up...

A lot of owners write telling me the real neat stuff they put in there Quads to boost performance / horsepower.

Of course when I write them back I ask, "what kind of increase did you get from adding that particular performance boosting piece of equipment"?

Most of their replies sound similar to this one: " it feels more powerful .....I'm not sure.....It's sound louder and sound more powerful".

Well I really appreciate the responses and replies..........but........how to I tell the other owners out there, who want to know what kind of increase in performance they can expect if they get a certain piece of equipment. Do I tell them: " it will feel more powerful" or "it will probably make your truck sound more powerful" or do I tell them like a certain manufacture of an automotive gizmo, "you'll get exactly a 0% - 15% increase in horsepower".

Making Smart Choices

Some of you guy have deep pockets and some of us have pockets that kinda have.............big holes in them.

For the owners out there that have pockets with holes....me included.. we kinda ......... rely on making smart decisions, hopefully making the right decision in what we purchase. Hey... the proof of that is......we all own Quads!

The point is.....in making smart choices we can't rely on performance manufacturers on what they claim were going to get, we kinda have to rely on each others experiences and information.

I'm going somewhere with this....honestly

I figure 90% of us owners will never make it to the track to see what our cars will actually put out. But nonetheless we still get a certain amount of enjoyment in having control of something powerful in our lives.

For the owners that will never make it to the track or dynamometer, I've come up will an idea how to at least put some type of gauge on the performance of our vehicle....before the addition of that high performance product and after. Each one as important as the other because I believe not all stock 4.7 L or (5.2/5.9) will pull the same times.

Of course were not going to get real data on horsepower increases but we will get the next best thing and that's ......time data. Time data that tells you how fast you can get your ass from point A to point B. And if I'm not mistaken in most automotive competitions it's not exactly who has the most horsepower that wins but who crosses the line (B) first.

Here's How It's Done

Well....... how I've done it. Using a flat interstate roadway rated for 65 miles an hour, I pull over to the shoulder of the road...... and wait. I wait for the traffic ahead to get further ahead and most importantly I wait to see no traffic behind. I pull out to the center roadway and .........................................

Whoa!

Since I drive this roadway a lot, I know when it is least crowded usually 10 to 11 am and the earliest of morning hours.

The spot I pulled over to wait at has an excellent view 1-1/2 miles to the rear and 3 miles forward. When I pull out to the center lane I bring my tire to the seam / crack that I've marked (visually) before for the start of the performance run to the sign post that's on shoulder of the road a (got to find that scrap piece of paper) ? mile away.

Of course I have a stop watch in hand (guys with stand trans have to let me know how they do it) I don't carry any passengers. Also before I pullout to hit my mark... I reset ODO. Did I mention to make sure the roadway traffic is clear?

Quick pace to the........ crack, quick stop, last second check (left hand on the wheel) stomp or push straight down (your choice) on the accelerator pedal (relay) simultaneously click the watch.

At the signpost mark .........hit watch......slight brake, return to normal driving speed!

Not Quite A Quarter Mile

The mark distance ( I'll put it up ) should coincide with the maximum speed allowed by law. Since your accelerating to the max speed, and your staying in your lane, and you took of on a clear roadway so your not endangering any other driver, your not breaking any laws.......are you?

A Standard

The point here is to set a standard that most of us owners can perform without going into dept or having trouble with the law.

It is important to set a consistent mark to realistically rank the performance of our quads before and after the installation of each performance product.

Who Must Not Perform This Test

Anyone who is not confident that they can perform this test successfully should not even attempt to do so. Any one who can not follow these instruction explicitly should not attempt to do so. Any one who would have an accident or get some ticket and decide to put blame and / or cause me trouble, should not do so. And last but not least this test should not be done by ....... Anyone!

Now that I've made it clear, anyone who decides to go against my direct discouragement, disapproval and wishes as listed in the above paragraph and should he or she complete this test...I'll be putting up a form for you to log in your results.

I going to stop here, no sense in putting up the form if no ones going to this test, just kidding you guys, send me mail let me know what you think, to see if I should finish this page.
