What Other Dakota Quad Owners Have To Say About:

Problems

I've condensed some of the mail below and cut out some parts that have to do with other subjects. This way folks can focus in on what their looking for in this section.

All the mail below can be found in it's entirety in the unorganized by subject but organized by receipt section at the index of "Owners Mail".

Hey there nick, IM glad to see that someone has started a web page for the dodge quad. I love my truck, but I have to say that I have run in too a few problems. within the first two weeks I had to have my fuel pump replaced. and the following week, some type of sensors went out in the engine. so I you can see it has not been to pleasant for me. I still have some problems that they are trying to fix, but other than these few problems.

I am having i think problems with the power of the dakota i have a 2000 we just go sometimes it is loud in first gear when i take off and sometimes it's not it s really frustrating me and when i take it to the dealer they say nothing is wrong when they drive it I'ts almost like it doesn't wanna go sometimes when you take off in it and then sometimes it does.

Thanks, Heather

Hi Nick & other Dakota owners, In response to Heather's e-mail, it sounds as though my 2000 Dakota V6 automatic 3.9 is experiencing exactly the same problem as her vehicle. The truck will be going to the dealership for analysis during the first week in January 2001. I will update this site once the diagnosis and repairs are made.

Hi Nick, I'm Corey... Bought a 97 Dakota two years ago and haven't had a problem until now. Took it into the dealer to get a leaking pump seal repaired, and they replaced the torque converter. Took it home tonight and the 4x4 light wouldn't come on in 4H. So I tried switching to 4L to see if it would come on then... It did. Only problem is that it absolutely will not come out of 4L. Heard of anything similar?

I recently purchased a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4. The only problems I have had so far, is my windshield wiper motor shorted out, and the chrome starting bubbling up and flaking off my grill, rims, and license plate light. I also have noticed that when I start the truck and go to pull out, the engine is real loud, but feels like it has only half the normal power....almost like it is in 4 wheel lo.
And yes, my V-8 5.9 litre loves its gas...no matter how conservatively I drive.

2000 Dakota QUAD CAB SLT: Truck is set up for towing. heavey duty supension, heavey duty radiator 4 speed automatic, 3.92 axle and red in color. Good looking truck.

BUT!!! Looks can be decieving. AT 2705 miles it developed a high speed vibration so bad it looked like the bed would shake off, Took to dealer, they replaced drive shaft and complete rear drum to drum. Talked to mechanic,he said the oil was full of metal and drive shaft was bad. Unfortunately the new rear was worse then the first rear. High speed vibration starting at 65 mph.and had a loud howling at 40 mph. Took truck to another dealer. This time they rebiult the rear all new internal parts, they told me. The milage at the time of this repair was 4496. The vibration and loud howling noise was gone. Now at 7712 miles it is vibrating again at 65 mph and noisey. I just took it to another dealer he's trying to tell me that all the quads with the 3.92 rears make this type of noise and vibration, its normal.

What I don'nt understand is when I purchase the truck it had a SMOOTH QUIET RIDE. My next step is file the paper work for protection under the lemon law. I've left out my complaints on the proplems with the dealerships. I don't see how they claim that they are 5 star. I'll hope this note wasn't to long. I'll keep everyone posted.

I own a 2000 2 wheel drive 4.7 quadcab, just a little over 5000 miles so far. Nice site Nick. Two problems to report so far.

First, If I were you I would check under the oil cap. when I changed my oil, I noticed ALOT of sludge(emullsion as dodge calls it) in my oil cap and running down the side of filler tube. The dealership already had the replacement parts(a oil cap with a flat bottom, and baffles that go in the filler tube)and this will resolve the problem per dodge that was due to condensation build up. It took them about a half hour.

Problem number two got resolved today. My intermintant wipers near the longest delay were random, eachswipe was different, anywhere between 12 seconds and 2 seconds. The dealer replacedsome kind of sending module(I think). It took them about a hour and a half. Small problems resolved quickly.

Other than that the truck runs great. I love the smooth ride, and the power that the 4.7 puts out. I'll keep you informed
