Subject: Problems / Minor

I purchased a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab SLT 2WD in August of 2000. It has the 4.7L engine with the towing package.

As of this month (February 2001), I now have over 6000 miles on the truck. The gas mileage in mixed rural-city driving is between 16 and 17 mpg. On an all highway trip, I have seen 20 mpg.

I have only noticed a couple of minor problems. One is that occasionally the transmission is quite loud after the truck is first turned on and put into gear. Once out of first gear everything is ok. Second, the engine occasionally sputters at an idle, with RPMs going down to about 500. And thirdly, the mpg average on the mini trip computer is always 2-3 mpg higher than actual values.

Overall, I am pleased with the truck and have not had any major problems.

Nick...

My new Quad cab arrived yesterday. Terrific vehicle, despite a "factory installed ding". They painted over a gouge in the body behind and below the left passenger door. Stupid mistake I found on my pre-acceptance inspection. They're going to fix it, but it was a stupid thing to do on their part. It's discouraging to think a 60 year old fart is smarter than the quality control people of DC. It's not a good sign, but it might be a blip.

The truck is better than I could have hoped for. I have gotten about 18 MPG in mixed driving during the first tank, but it's too early to tell.

I'm off to get a sprayed-in bedliner plus a Roll-n-Lock tomorrow. I'll take a ton of pix and install them at Photoclub.com so you can download any you want. I'll send an e-mail with the link and info.

Keep up the great work...

Hi Nick. I just got my 2001 bronze pearl coat quad. Definitely the coolest truck on the road. I like the look of your A.R.E. tonneau cover. Would you know if they are available in Canada. I live in Edmonton Alberta. By the way, great site.

Thanks Norm

Hello, Nick...

I have enclosed a couole of pictures of the new Quad Cab with the
Roll-n-Lock just installed.

Here's a link where more are located. You can download any you wish and use them any way you want. http://members2.clubphoto.com/bob206003/New_Truck_Truck/

The combination of the RhinoLiner and the Roll-n-Lock seems pretty much ideal... still have access to the bed. Downside is loss of about 9 inches of useful length and also, of course, cost. In the overall scheme of things, it's not too bad. Thanks for the great work you're doing on your website

Subject: Mileage / Performance

Hi Nick,

Just stumbled across you Page, it really looks impressive, and may be a promising way to get some good "feedback" from other owners.

I just pick-up my new Dakota Quadcab, 7 Feb.2001 and don't have any problems to report on yet (well with the exception of the usual hassles with the Dealer) Vehicle is not "broken-in" yet but I am getting 15 m.p.g. in the city.

I am experiencing the same high rev./low torque situation described by a few of your other E-mailers, but this is only on "cold" starts and always disappears once the engine is up to operational temperature.

I too am contemplating the addition of some performance modifications, many have referred to in their responses. Initially I will do a "cat-back" exhaust system replacement and air induction system replacement, perhaps even a replacement of the factory "chip" with a new Jet chip.

One of your E-mailers was interested in information of suspension mods. I have found Fab-Tech.com for 2" or 3" Lift(2WD or 4WD) kits and Hotchkiss.com for 2" to 5" drops (I am planning to lower mine for better cornering capabilities)

I will be waiting until the expiration of my warranty before I install a Kenne Bell Supercharger and replacement of the cat-forward exhaust system. At that time I will probably be looking at Brake system replacement (maybe Brenbo of Stillen)

I have a 2001 dodge Dakota quad cab PYTHON RT. I don't have a picture yet but I will soon.It has the 4.7 liter V8. Ram air custom hood, ram air K&N intake. It also has mopar chip and dual cat-back exhaust with a flowmaster.

The dealer has done all the work so it is under warranty. He told me I'm pushing 330hp. I think I'm more about 310. If anyone has any question or has any other good ideas for this truck please email me.

I Love this F'in truck.
