Hi, Nick...I'd like to compliment you on you website. I know it's a big undertaking and you've spent alot of time on it. It looks great! Congratulations.

I've been driving trucks for nearly 25 years and have had a lot of trucks. I trade every 2-3years and seem to always get another brand each time. My next rig will probably be a Qaud Cab Dakota 4x4. I need a truck to go to the transfer station (aka: dump)each week, plow my monsterous driveway (1/4 mile)and give my Vette a rest in the winter when we go up north to ski, plus winter commuting, too.

I like the size of the Quad Cab and the convenience of 4 doors with a back seat large enough to hold more than my lunch. The Dodge has macho styling with an agressive look and big tires, too. Tho't I'd just get a GMC Sierra K1500 regular cab/sport bed, but without rear storage....well, it's my 2nd choice. My present lease (Ford F250 Super Duty Super Cab) is up in a few months. I've toyed with offing it early and getting a '01 Quad Cab, but the residual would be lower since most of the year is up. I'll probably keep the big rig until it expires in Sept, but order an '02 Dakota around mid July or early August... whenever an order can be placed. I ususally can't take delivery off the lot as there seems to be options that I can't find sitting on the dealers lot. Peculiar, eh?

I've visited several dealerships on Sundays to look over the various colors and options available without the hassel of the sales guy smoking over my shoulder. I've found several "open" rigs that I've sat in and the truck, altho much smaller than my Ford F250, seems to have plenty of room for my 6/2 frame. Headroom is much more limited in the Dakota than the Ford, however. The interior is quite nice and I like the dash mounted shift on the fly lever, too. I've had that option on the last few trucks I've owned and find it's very convenient and space saving, too.

I've found that the dealer guys really don't know much about the vehicles they sell. I visited one last week about 25 miles away and asked if a light duty snow plow could be mounted on the Dakota. I had one on a '92 Dakota and it worked just find. The sales person looked clueless...and was. He proceeded to get out several "books" to find out. Ten minutes later he finally said, "If you put a plow on it the warranty will be voided". I got up and left. Called the service manager in 2 other places and asked the same question. Warranty will NOT be voided unless a problem occurs with a specific part and it is found to be from abuse. Whatever. But without a plow, the decision will go to GMC. Spoke with the plow dealer that I've purchased/traded plows with for 20 years, and he said a plow rig is made for the Dakota and it works just fine.

Anyway, I'm sorry to go on sooooooooo long. My apologies. You've got a nice site. It'searly in the game, but I see lots of Quads on the road lookin' fine, too I might add. I'm sure more hits will be coming your way. When I get my rig, I'll post some tech, pix and mods I will make. Two chamber Flowmaster duals to start to increase the rumble will be the first week of ownership. Seems this combo is always the first thing I do. :-)

Thanx for the nice site and opinions from you and your readers. I'll check in often.

Regards.............. BAGGER

Just saying hi and glad to see a web site just for us Quad owners. I purchased my truck at the end of January 2001 and can't say enough about it.

I looked at all the competition in the quad market and found the Dodge had more "bang for the buck". Having two children and needing the back seat really put an extended cab out of the question. I recommend a quad to anyone else with kids looking for a truck.

Nick,

I ordered a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab Sport 4x4 that should be in any day now. Your website was a big plus when I was deciding options. I went with the 4.7 after reviewing the postings from your readers.

Please keep up the good work. I am reading up on accessories and check back on a daily basis for updates. Thanks.

Hi Nick. Great site. I'm a Coloradan that just test drove a Dakota Quad and I loved it.

My questions for you are: V6 vs V8? I go up into the mountains a lot (6-8% grade) and do not want to be under-powered. Nothing heavy to tow. And yes, the thing about cost.

I've gone to a variety of web sites. Looks like the average cost of the 4.7L V8, 4x4, with plenty of options is around $24. Is this too high or low? How much should I haggle? I'm visiting the dealer tonight. Much appreciated for your help in advance.

Pat

Follow up mail!

Hey Nick, you're talkin' to a new Dakota driver. Got it last night, the 4.7L Sport Plus V8 in Patriot Blue. Got it for invoice plus $300, less the $2k rebate. I know he still made money on the holdback but what you gonna do? So I'll be checking out your web site more frequently in the future. Nice to make your acquaintance.

Subject: Accessories / Aftermarket Lighting

HI my name is keith and my wife and i bought our dodge quad in august 2000 with the following options 4x4, 360, l.s.d.,premium sound.

I wish to report that the headlight and foglight system use a ground interupt switch on the ground side of the lights with ignition powered hi/lo/foglight relays which results in a hot wire condition on the hi/lo/foglight wires when the ignition is off and the lights are in the off position.

The problem is that you cannot attach aftermarket lights powered with a hot switched relay (HELLAS,PIA'S,ETC..)to the hi/lo/foglight system because it all go's hot when you turn off the ignition AND lights which TURNS ON the aftermarket lights.

The only solution is to power the aftermarket lights with a seperate switch. not a problem IF you want to use one. problem if you don't. I want my hellas to turn on WITH my hi's threw my stock switch. that's it! no extra switches. VERRY upseting to find all this out AFTER i installed everything for my wife and i ask her when dose she want them on? hi's? lo's and fog combo? seperate switch? bet you can't guess her response.
