Just wanted to say a few words about my "newest" rocket. WOW, I am impressed. This little truck really surprised me...and my 5.9 friends!! I still don't think it is broken in, but currently getting about 16.5 mpg combined and that is without the fiberglas lid that I have on order which should increase my mileage because of the lower drag. Also have a friend that has the 5.2 in a full size RAM 1500 and he swears that with "flowmaster" exhaust system and the filter upgrade he has increased his mileage by about 20%, not mention the increase in hp. Going to try it as soon as I get me new lid and "bedrug". Will let you know how I make out, but I feel as though Dodge has another winner here with the "quad" as I am seeing more and more of them on the road. See ya, Ed Hi Nick. GREAT SITE!!I am waiting for my 2001 Dakota 4.7 4*4 quadcab, almost fully loaded minusleather(cause of my dogs),rear defroster and tow package. I am hoping find some aftermarket peformance accessories that really work, such as air cleaner(airaid or k+n) induction systems (im not to keen on the pictures i have seen for the Airaid system from the cleaner to the intake I prefer to have smooth flow not an accordian tube)and perhaps some exaust mods. And also camper shells. I know its alot to to ask for, but any info would be greatly appreciated.I'll be sure to write back with any findings. Karl I really enjoy your site. I found it while researching my next vehicle purchace and it really helped me make the decision to go with the Dakota. I plan on checking back frequently and will try to add my 2cents here and there. Pics will be on the way after the next pretty day! Brandon State: Georgia / Year:

No 4X4 / Nick, I actually found your page looking for a complete box for my 2000. I bought it in December. .9% financing for 5 years. I usually get my wifes hand me down cars when I buy her a new one. I was excited to by a new vehicle I wanted for myself. I was really bumbed out when I got rear-ended 2 weeks after I picked it up. Dodge does not offer a complete bed/box assembly. I really do not want the body shop to fabricate one from individual parts. So I am in search of a used box. Let me know if anyone totals out the front end of their Quad. Gregg State: No Response /

Nick, I don't have a quad-cab, but i do
have the extended cab 4.7L with a 5-spd and a 3.55 I have a commute that involves about 8 miles of street drving and about 5 miles of interstate (sometimes speeds of 85-90 are not uncommon on the way to work.......). I have found two things to be consistently true: First, I get 17 mpg around town commuting and 20-21 mpg on raod trips on the interstate (I usually drive 75-80 mph on the highway when I'm not going to work). Second, the overhead computer that your other patrons seem to rely on is a piece of crap. It tells me that my gas mileage is about 15 mpg street and 19 mpg hwy. I reset the overhead computer when I fill up with gas (full tank every time), and I also reset the trip odometer on the dash. The next time I fill up! with gas and record the mileage, there is usually a 3-4 mile difference between the two counters. I am putting my faith in the Dash-Mounted ticker, since that's what the Feds look at in a case of odometer fraud. Since I use a calculator to figure the equation, I think it may do a better job than that overhead computer. Knowing the temp and the direction is handy, though.I am pleased in an overall sense in the smooth quality operation of this new overhead cam engine. I drove my Dad's 1999 V-6 and it rattles like a paint shaker in comparison. I used to own a 1992 extended cab with a 3.9L that I modified heavily and used to drag race. I miss it dearly, as I had to sell it to buy my 2000. I can answer lots of things about the old 92-96 motors, if your readers have queries, I am at truck_nut@hotmail.com Alex Cook State: Georgia / Year:

3.55 / Transmission: Manual Overdrive / Hi Nick, Really like your site. Chock full of great info! I have a 2000 Quad I purchased in Nov. I have had no problems with it yet. I get a solid 16 mpg combined with the 4.7 and auto trans. I work swing shift here in L.A., so driving to work in the day on the freeway is like city driving, but at night its highway driving. All I've done to it so far is put in a Pioneer CDplayer and this morning I ordered a Gibson cat-back exhaust. Keep up the good work! Bob State: California /

SLT, posi Nick, I purchased my Quad at Scotia Motors Dodge in Scotia, New York. Their Service department is outstanding! The Manager is an ace. They have serveral top experienced mechanics. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to buy in New York State to look them up. Extremely knowledable Sales staff as well. I have taken other Dakotas and our Intrepid there for service also. Never had to bring backtwice for a problem. Bill State: New York / Year:

Overdrive / Nick, the "LOUD" problem people are having with their Dakotas is most likely the clutch-type radiator fan. As I've mentioned previously, I owned a 92 with the 3.9 litre V6. When you first start the truck and drive away (in first gear), the clutch on the fan unit is fully engaged. The engine is having to turn a 5-blade steel fan at the exact RPM that the engine is turning. If you are revving to 2500 rpm, so is the fan. It's moving a lot of air and robbing a lot of horsepower. So it feels like there is a major problem. Eventually (after about 1/8 mile) the clutch heats up and releases (much like putting the clutch pedal in) and the fan slows down. The engine is able to turn much more freely while the fan is "coasting." The only time I experienced this besides start-up was is the dead of Atlanta's summer when it's 106 degrees in stand still traffic. The clutch pack re-engages and starts pulling air thru the radiator to cool the boiling motor. Again, half the power, twice the noise. If the dealer tells you noting is wrong, more than likely, they are right. State: Georgia / Year:
