Hello Nick, I am ordering my Quad in
the morning. I was wondering where you find accessories.
I amparticularly interested in a way to haul a ladder.
Mopar is expensive.

Hey everybody, I just bought a 2001 QC
and i thought id sare a strange problem i
encountered the next day. I noticied the next day that
the center cap on the right rear
wheel was missing. I went to the dealer who tried to put
a new center cap in but each
time it just fell out of the hole. It turns out the
center hole is 3mm too big. The
wheel was put on a balancing machine and was fine. So
after 2hrs duh, the dealer has
decided to replace it. Ill keep you informed.

I wandered by your page at work...I
wanted to share with you waht I did for my 2001 Dakota
Quad Cab...
1) AirRaid intake system. Purchased for
$150 via internet. Time to install ~30-40 minutes,
supposedly good for ~15 hp gain. Similar to the K&N
air intake system. Seat of the pants shows a noticeable
improvement in down low grunt, as well as a bit louder
engine/induction noise.
2) Borla cat-back exhaust. This one's
coming in the mail. $~400 for a stainless exhaust,
supposedly good for another ~10-20 hp. We'll see about
that one...
Didn't do any pedal to the floor
exercises prior to the air raid, since the truck was new
and I am still breaking it in. But it does pull quite a
bit harder, and for whatever reason the engine now holds
peak revs a bit more than before. I think a worthwhile
mod for ~$150. I'll let you know about the Borla...

Nick: I see by the photo that you have
in fact purchased a fiberglass tonneau for your Dakota.
How about the color-match issue? The prices that I got
while price-shopping for an A.R.E. cover were more like
$750 installed. What was your actual cost?
I'm on the verge of purchasing, and I'm
also considering a bed rug. Any feedback on bed rugs? We
have only had our Quad for about three months and have
almost 7k miles. So far no warranty issues (that can be
repaired). Is your heater noisy? Thanks for your input!

Hey Nick I just wanted to say you have
a great site for QC owners. I cant wait unil I get my
flame red Qc handed down in a few years. For now all I
can do is sit and stare at it, look for accessories for
it, and occasionally back it out of the driveway.
I would like to know where I could get
a good deal on a tonneau cover and bed rug. Once again
i'd like to say your site is awesome. Perhaps in the
future you could add a message board to bring the QC
family even closer. I cat wait til the next update. c ya
for now.

I see a fine opportunity for fellow
Dakota owners to share their thoughts and
experiences......Thanks Nick, great job!
In Jan 2001, I finally broke down and
purchased my first Dodge, after more than 20 years of
owning Ford trucks. I decided to create a (wish) list of
all the things I was looking for in a truck. The 2001
Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with the 5.9 V8 was it.
This truck has real get-up'n-go. If
desired, I can pass most everything on the highway
(except a gas station) and out-pull everything in its
class. Goes without saying, I knew the 5.9 V8 wouldn't be
the most economical truck I've ever owned.... Although, I
will say that Dodge has dramatically exaggerated
(Hwy/City) fuel efficiency claims.
It's easy to boast about the things we
like about OUR truck. Although, it's not very responsible
to criticize features we don't like...when most of us at
least looked at the truck before we bought it.
However, fuel efficiency claims made by
Dodge are not responsible, nor are they substantiated. In
my way of thinking….. Each Dakota owner should
be reimbursed
the difference between fuel claims (made by Dodge) and
the actual (MPG) averaged throughout the warrantee
period.
Perhaps the “fuel”
test truck drove thousands of miles, down hill in
neutral? Just a thought.

I have been in the car care industry
for around 6 1/2 years now and I have a few pointers for
you to add to the list.
1. insted of suggesting to use a brush,
suggest using a sheepskin mit. A brush will start to
leave the finish dull over time and if you look closely
in the sunlight you will see very fine scratches which we
like to call the spider webbing affect. it won't look
like much at first but over time they get to be very
noticeable.
2. you were on the right track about
rinsing the brush between sections here is a good time
saver and really affective on that unseen dirt that can
scratch. get a second bucket and fill it with the same
soap salution that you are washing with. rinse your wash
mit in that bucket before dipping into the other bucket.
another little hint is to make a little tornato in the
rinse bucket everynow and then this will cause the loose
dirt to go directly to the bottom of the bucket.
3 WAX your vehicle nobody evr waxes
their vehicles bugs me alot evry year is sufficient 6
months is better Blue Corals AUTOFOM works best for me
you can use it in the sun dries quickly and is easy to
remove just dont use when there is alot of humidity hope
these help

2001 Quad Cab Owner
Nice information
on your web pages, Nick. I'll add it to my
"Favorites". I got my Quad Cab
about a month before you, pretty much fully loaded with
the 4.7L engine. I got it to replace a Ford Escort that
my family, especially my teenage mutants, were
outgrowing. They fit real nice in the roomy Quad Cab.
I did a lot of
shopping around on the Internet and eventually got it through Costco (
it was a real bitch getting it through the checkout
stand. Had to turn it on the side to scan it) Just
kidding. The Costco web page referred me to a dealer in
Puyallup, Washington.
The only things
I've added to it so far, is having the bed sprayed at
Line-X, and a Steel Horse Bed-Xtender added to be able to
put in longer items like mattresses (it's funny how many
new friends you have when they find out you have a new
truck and they need to move.) I'll probably add some
steps to the sides so my wife can get in easier. The gas mileage like you covered
on one of your pages, was right on.
I was at first
disappointed only getting 15 mpg on a trip to Minnesota,
but I only had 300 miles on it to begin with and it
hasn't been broken in. I only have 11,000 miles on it so
far.
It cost me about
as much as my first house, but it'll probably be the last
vehicle I'll have to buy. Thanks for the information on
your web pages.
