What Other Dakota Quad Owners Have To Say

Page 3

Hi Nick,

Great site. I've had my Dakota Quad 4X4 since Dec. 2 and I've loved every driving minute. I'm interested in your towing and cover insights so I'll be checking in often.

My wife & I want to start trailering horses and I'm trying to find out as much on towing and options as I can. I'ts been hard to get a straight answer from the dealership on the maximum towing weight for the truck. I've seen the specs Dodge puts out for towing and with the 3:55 Dodge says @ 4800 lbs. The dealership said with the tow package I could go way over that. Any comments?

I ordered my truck with the towing package and also discovered the factory forgot to install the transmission cooler. The dealer didn't catch it either but they're going to make it right.

I've only put 5000 km on so far and have really noticed the gas consumption difference when it's -20 C to above 0. I'll let you know what kind of milage I'm getting when I sit down and do the math.

Thanks again for the site.

Nick, I was going to trade in my truck and get a new F150 at the end of this month, until I came across your site. Wow, i'm impressed by your site, your enthusiasm about your Dakota as well as what the other owners are saying on your site.

I'll be stopping by the first Chrysler dealer I can find and give this baby a test ride. If I feel half the excitement you and the other owners have, You'll know what I'll be driving.

Keep up the good work,
Steve

Hi, I have just purchased a 2001 4x4 Quad Cab Sport with the 4.7 engine. I love this truck! The gas mileage could be better, but it more than makes up for it in the ride and appearance of the truck. I am really impressed with the performance. You can'task for a better truck.

My name is Roger and i have a 2000 Quad with 4.7, posi. and all the other goodies. I also have a 3 year old son who had taken the truck as his own. I would like to give a suggestion to anyone looking to buy one, first its the most usable truck for a family and the 4.7 is the best bet, honestly if you are looking for high gas milage buy a car. the performace of the 4.7 is on the high side as far as trucks go (no ford has beat me yet!).

The last thing is that the ride and handling is almost like a car its easy to forget there is a bed behind you. I love my Quad and the only problem I have had is the right cam sensor went out.

Nick this is a great site and Ill stay in touch.

Hello Quad cab owners,
Just ordered my 2001 Qc with 4.7,5speed SLT plus and leather interior plus all the extras. The dealer sold it at invoice plus one dollar, But added a non negotiable 550 advertising and dealer prep. With the Dealer holdback tec. and the above he made about 1300 dollars. Nobody in Fla. drops the dealer holdback even if you order the car. Could I have done better?

2000 Dakota QUAD CAB SLT: Truck is set up for towing. heavey duty supension, heavey duty radiator 4 speed automatic, 3.92 axle and red in color. Good looking truck. BUT!!! Looks can be decieving. AT 2705 miles it developed a high speed vibration so bad it looked like the bed would shake off, Took to dealer, they replaced drive shaft and complete rear drum to drum. Talked to mechanic,he said the oil was full of metal and drive shaft was bad. Unfortunately the new rear was worse then the first rear. High speed vibration starting at 65 mph.and had a loud howling at 40 mph. Took truck to another dealer. This time they rebiult the rear all new internal parts, they told me. The milage at the time of this repair was 4496. The vibration and loud howling noise was gone. Now at7712 miles it is vibrating again at 65 mph and noisey. I just took it to another dealer he's trying to tell me that all the quads with the 3.92 rears make this type of noise and vibration, its normal. What I don'nt understand is when I purchase the truck it had a SMOOTH QUIET RIDE. My next step is file the paper work for protection under the lemon law. I've left out my complaints on the proplems with the dealerships. I don't see how they claim that they are 5 star. I'll hope this note wasn't to long. I'll keep everyone posted.

Hi Nick,

I've visited your site several times and really like it. Back in October I purchased a fully optioned '01 Quad Cab SLT Plus 4X4 with the 4.7 and solid patriot blue metallic (I did not want a two-tone color scheme).

So far I have 2500 miles on the clock and have not had a single problem. The truck attracts a fantastic amount of attention and compliments. I have nothing but praise for the Q-Cab and highly recommend it. I am married and have two boys ages 11 and 13 and travel to South Carolina from Virginia several times a year.

My boys claim that the truck has more room and is more comfortable in back than our '97 Ford Crown Vic. In fact the truck is our vehicle of choice whenever we all go out. In addition to our truck and Ford Crown Vic, we also own a Chevy Caprice (know anyone else who has a Ford, Chevy, and a Dodge?). The point being that we are not brand loyal, we purchase what suits our needs and nothing even comes close to the Dodge Dakota Quad Cab for our needs. It is on!

AWESOME truck. It is comfortable, rides great, looks great, and it hauls payload and it hauls a-- ! And the sound of that 4.7 under acceleration is incredible. Keep up the good work and keep on truckin' (sorry, could not resist the old cliche').

I have just taken an leap of faith and ordered a quad cab with a standard transmission. The leap of faith comes into play because I could not find a stick shift to drive prior to ordering. Do you have any information on the manual transmission?

Thanks for your anticipated response and for taking the initiative to put this site together!!!!

Scott

I own a 2000 2 wheel drive 4.7 quadcab, just a little over 5000 miles so far. Nice site Nick. Two problems to report so far.

First, If I were you I would check under the oil cap. when I changed my oil, I noticed ALOT of sludge(emullsion as dodge calls it) in my oil cap and running down the side of filler tube. The dealership already had the replacement parts(a oil cap with a flat bottom, and baffles that go in the filler tube)and this will resolve the problem per dodge that was due to condensation build up. It took them about a half hour.

Problem number two got resolved today. My intermintant wipers near the longest delay were random, eachswipe was different, anywhere between 12 seconds and 2 seconds. The dealer replacedsome kind of sending module(I think). It took them about a hour and a half. Small problems resolved quickly.

Other than that the truck runs great. I love the smooth ride, and the power that the 4.7 puts out. I'll keep you informed
