Hi Nick, I'm Corey... Bought a 97 Dakota two years ago and haven't had a problem until now. Took it into the dealer to get a leaking pump seal repaired, and they replaced the torque converter. Took it home tonight and the 4x4 light wouldn't come on in 4H. So I tried switching to 4L to see if it would come on then... It did. Only problem is that it absolutely will not come out of 4L. Heard of anything similar?

Hi Nick, Great website, glad you took the initiative to produce a site for the Dakota Quad Cab. I have owned a 2000 and now own a 2001 D.Quad. Lots of great improvements on the 2001 from larger wheels to a remodeled interior that has an option for leather seats. This is certainly the nicest truck I have ever driven. The question I have is, do you know of any companies that manufacture a suspension lift kit for the D. Quad? I spoke with a Rancho rep. and he told me that Rancho currently is in the production stages of a 3-4" suspension lift kit that will be ready sometime 4th qtr. 2001. I would prefer to not wait that long to lift my vehicle. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig

Hi Nick & other Dakota owners, In response to Heather's e-mail, it sounds as though my 2000 Dakota V6 automatic 3.9 is experiencing exactly the same problem as her vehicle. The truck will be going to the dealership for analysis during the first week in January 2001. I will update this site once the diagnosis and repairs are made.

I recently purchased a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4. The only problems I have had so far, is my windshield wiper motor shorted out, and the chrome starting bubbling up and flaking off my grill, rims, and license plate light. I also have noticed that when I start the truck and go to pull out, the engine is real loud, but feels like it has only half the normal power....almost like it is in 4 wheel lo.

And yes, my V-8 5.9 litre loves its gas...no matter how conservatively I drive.

How much would a new quad cab cost me? -kev.

Nick, Thanks for the information. I will send you some pictures as soon as I receive the truck I am going to order. I am also going to start a web page in about 3 months. I will try and get some kind of discussion board posted where all Dakota owners can talk about their trucks--a mailing list may also be interesting. I will let you know when I get that done so your page and mine both have a link to it.
Thanks again, Bob

Hello Nick , My name is Chuck and our family also has a new Quad Cab Dakota with 4.7. Just reading on chats here and there on mileage from 4.7 . Seems like everyone has thumbs down on getting great mileage but most expecting like you said - on the high number on ratings. For your data if want to pass info along or just useless info here is my one true mileage test- never checked mileage until had 1700 miles on truck (changed oil at 500 and 1500 miles). Hooked on to covered two place snowmobile trailer with two sleds inside- its like pulling a small camper 8x 10 . Drove 200 miles in weather around -5F to + 5F with light wind and got 10 mpg driving 72 on interstate then 55 - 67 off interstate but slowing for small towns on return trip drove under 70mph on interstate but had to buck a cold wind and got 11.2 mpg. This has auto and had overdrive off each way - engine breaking in but sometimes mileage varies with the gas up here in the North Dakota area- and also have to change oil often due to condensation in the oil from short trips in sub zero weather (which we been having since got vehicle)
Bye Chuck

Thank u for making a web page for the dakota Iam going to buy one in march I love the looks of this truck . keep up the great work.
Peter

I was looking for different kinds of accesories for my new police unit when i found your page. oh and by the way i love my quad also. 5.9 v-8, heavy duty suspension, heavy duty charging system, extra cooling, beefed up suspension. tough as they come. And still plenty of room for the bad guys. Looks great with red and blue strobe lights on it!

Great Web site!

I purchased my Dakota Quad October 2000. This is my third Dakota. I owned two Extended Cab SLT 4X4's. First a 1992 and then a 1995. Both had the 3.9 V-6. I was happy with both. But this new Quad is something else! You are right it is a combination sports car & truck. The performance is fantastic. I also bought the 4.7. The salesman told me I would not be sorry and I agree.

I have added a Jerico cap (matches perfect and the shape follows the contour of the truck), a Penda liner, ventshades and ventshade bug-guard, step-in shields, Canon mats and Dodge factory molded splash guards. I get many compliments.

As far as mileage. About 14-15 right in line with the sticker, But I have less than 4000 miles on it. I too did not buy the truck for gas mileage but I do believe after break in it will improve somewhat.

A great truck that I enjoy driving each day.
Bill
