Subject: Problems / Wiring

Hi Nick,

I think you have a great Idea for a site. I am planning on sending you some Pictures of My 2001 Quad Cab. I got it in October her in N.C. I would be interested in hearing about other ownders and any problems they have or are having.

I have a few issues, none serious at this point. I also would be interested in seeing things like performance tips and Lists of places to get things like shop Manuals. Sorry if you have already talked about this on the page, it was all I could come up with at 3am.

By the way, My technical issue was with My wiring to my wiper motors, It appears the wire fried itself. Dodge replaced the wiring , no harm done to the motors, thanks to the fuse.

My Name is Chris , I live in Raleigh NC. I am a Unix Software Engineer. I am also a Ham Radio operator and I have some Nice Gear in my Dakota. Anyone that has questions about that, I guess I can offer a sugestion or two. I am really in love with my truck, I decided on the 4.7V8

Man will that thing Run.

Drop me a line sometime, Let me know if there is anything I can do to Help.

Thanks

Great Site!

Chris Smith

Subject: Performance / Catback Exhaust

Hi Nick,

Find that I'm like a kid in candy store waiting for updates to happen to the sight. Can't say enough about it you do one heck of a job. In the process of getting some photos of my QC to you.

Yes, I would definitely pay a fee if the other site takes off. The information on the present site is worth it. Would be nice if Chrysler would chime in with something such as allowing us to be aware of TSB's when they notify the dealer.

Just got back from a trip to the shore the old Dodge got 17.5 mpg and that wasn't doing the posted speed limit either. In the process of ordering a Gibson Catback now. Might be able to see if the distributor is willing to give a discount to all QC owners can't hurt to ask him. Will let you know later.

Thanks for such a great site. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out.

Ross

Subject: Problem / Paint

Just a quick note to inform anyone who is considering the purchase of a two-tone Dakota, that they need to take a close look at the seam where the two colors come together.

I noticed what I would consider to be "shoddy" workmanship on mine, and thought initially that it had been damaged in transport and repainted. Fortunately, I went into the dealership with a level head (it is difficult when you are talking about your baby) asking to see the documentation on the truck from the factory, since there was no disclosure of any damage.

There was no documentation showing that any damage had occurred, so I had them bring a brand new one (unsold) around, and the sales manager and myself both walked it. Surprisingly, there was worse workmanship on it, than on mine. Of course, they will take care of it, but it isn't the same.

PLEASE, PLEASE, walk it closely, and look at the workmanship. No one wants to have their "baby" taken in for plastic surgery when they are only months old.

The purr' of the V-8, and the feel it delivers is unmatchable. Great Truck!

Thanks!
Tom

Subject: Maintenance / Lubricant

Hello

Hi, I was looking through your sight and came across something about towing. I had something to add to your info, it is recomened that the factory fill rear axle lubricant be replaced with an SAE 75W-140 synthetic gear lube. Mopar synthetic lube is recommened. (Page 171 of Dakota 2001 owners manual). I look forward to a question/answer type page or a place where a group could share idea and comments live. (That could get intesting?)

Like your sight and hope it grows and dosen't keep you from enjoying your Quad.

Hello.
I am in the process of ordering a 2001 Dakota Club Cab SLT 4x4. I saw your site. It is good. I seriously considered ordering the QC however, I think a Club Cab would suit my needs.

I noticed your truck, it is great. Right now I am trying to decide on a color for my Dakota. Is your the Med. Bronze Metallic? Please let me know ASAP. The color chart in the catalog is very lame.

Help! my know-it-all brother is infuriating me no end. what is the first year for the dakota quad? i could swear it was 2000, but he says that quad cab dakotas and rams have been around since 1997.

I think he's full of it on both models, but since i never researched the ram (too big), i'll give him the benefit of the doubt. by the way, i'm getting great gas mileage, and the manik black powdercoat nerf bars look great on this truck. mine is red, it looks just like the dakota sport picture on the dodge website!! i can't wait to hit the beach in cape hatteras!

Thanks for info, i'll do some pix real soon. we drive from south jersey to hatteras every august. you can drive right out onto the beach to fish if you have 4x4, one of the reasons i traded in the car for dakota (i really LOVED that car, too!)

You sound like your from my area, so let me tell you that if your picture of beach looks like wildwood, boy are you in for a BIG treat! gotta run, but i could talk on this all day!

Subject: Ham Radio setup in Quad

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the mail. Get this, I washed and waxed my Truck this past weekend, getting it all ready to take some really nice pictures only to have it Rain! We went from spring weather to what feels like winter again all on the first day of spring to boot.

I will try for some pictures again this weekend. I should be able to get them to you sometime early next week.

As for the Ham stuff, Right now I only have one Radio in the truck, Although I own Several. I have not had the chance to install them all. The Radio that is in the truck is a 2 meter Radio. 2 meters is mostly an FM band. We use local repeaters ( towers) to relay our signal. It is actually the most popular band. I have a single Magnetic mount Antenna right now.

I am planning on installing a second Radio and Maybe that would be a good lead in for something. As far as installing, its not much different from installing a CB, Maybe with a bit more detail for tuning and so on, but Folks may find it interesting. I figure I could take pictures of that just for kicks. I have some great tips for installing Mobile Antenna's on cars and trucks. As for questions , No problem Answering Technical questions is what I do for a living!

My install of my current Radio is neat and clean , No wires in view. I took advantage of the center console to hide wires. I am also planning on installing some Matching Green LED lights in the console and wiring them into the lighting so that they will follow the dim control for the dash lights. Sometimes its hard to see in those little slots in the console at night.

My future Plans include, addition of Radios, (1) 6 Meter Radio, (1) HF World Band Radio ( you can talk all over the world on this one). A Single Antenna for the HF Radio and 6 meter Radio. (1) Laptop Computer for Weather data via ham radio ( I am a storm spotter) (1) Small color portable TV , This is going to be used for weather radar ( we have plans for a full time Ham TV transmitter in Raleigh that is linked to the National weather service Radar).

I also have a 600 Watt Power DC to AC power converter installed in my truck as well as a mount for my hand held Multiband Radio.

As far as the truck itself, I have only had time to install a K&N filter Charger. I plan to do something about the Muffler and Exhaust system soon.

Chris

Subject: Purchase

I purchased my Quad Cab last saturday. It is Bronze SLT plus with 4 wheel drive. It happened to be a demo 2001 with 5700 miles. I got a great deal on it and am really looking forward to picking it up thursday night.

I purchased it at 5 Corners Dodge in cedarburg WI, Mike is the saleman and he was great. It happened to be his demo truck. It comes with a lot of extras including the towing pkg and larger tires and bed liner, fog lights, 4.8 v8 and many more.

Subject: Sending in pictures

Hi Nick,

Its Chris in NC again. I have some pictures for ya as promised.

I think they turned out ok. I used my Camcorder and a Video Snappy to take the shots. They are medium format at 24 bit. I did not want to send Giant pictures so I opted for 320 by 240 size. It appears that is what the other pics on the site are.

Let me know if you need em a different size, I can take care of that for ya. I have a total of 12, hope thats not to many. Use what you want, all or none, no big deal, just thought I would send these and see what you think.

This is a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab, 4.7 V8 Auto Trans, SLT package. 6900 miles now. Gas Milage, BLA I would prefer the power, I did not buy a Mopar Truck for Gas milage. Badges, we dont need no stinking badges. I am really thrilled that there is NO V8 Badge on my fender. It really Pisses off those small imports when they attempt to toy with me at the light!! Talk about a shock. I dont really race, but I have been known to light the tires from time to time.

Chris
