What Other Dakota Quad Owners Have To Say

I'd like to thank my fellow Dakota Quad Owners for taking the time to write in. Having people write in, who sincerely share a similar interest is the basic motivation I have for continuing to update these web pages.

I make an effort to reply to all who write, I apologize if I'm a bit late in replying or I don't have the opportunity to do so.

A Special thank you to the Owners who have been using the mail form and sharing personal information about their Quads with other Quad owners or soon to be owners.

The mail in this section is listed in the order it's been received. Higher page numbers indicate the newest mail received. Starting with Jan 2001- below the page # is the month and year the mail was received.

Other mail dealing with different subject matter can be found elsewhere on this site or is awaiting a page construction to fit it's content.

I'm in the process of organizing mail by the dominant subject of each message. You can either read through from here (this page) or focus in on an area of interest immediately below.

I recently purchased a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab V6 and my mileage both on the highway (19) and in town (15-16)has been less than impressive, especially considering the V6. How many miles are you getting to the gallon and do you have any suggestions on how I might improve my mileage?

Thanks, Cynthia

Hey there nick, IM glad to see that someone has started a web page for the dodge quad. I love my truck, but I have to say that I have run in too a few problems. within the first two weeks I had to have my fuel pump replaced. and the following week, some type of sensors went out in the engine. so I you can see it has not been to pleasant for me. I still have some problems that they are trying to fix, but other than these few problems. I really love my truck. I changed the air filter, I put in a kn. filter to give me a little more power and better gas mileage. I hope that no one else has any problems with there truck. I come from a dodge family, we have two other dodge trucks at our house. we have a 1999 dodge r/t club cab and a 2000 ram sport. so I hope your web page comes together for you.

I have my Quad Cab about a month now and was wondering what kind of mileage other people have been getting with the 4.7 liter engine. Whether I tow, drive 'gently',or drive aggressively I seem to be getting between 12-14 mpg. Never higher! I have read some articles and comments that lead me to believe that the mpg is greatly exaggerated at 14-19 on the window sticker. Do you have any thoughts on this. thanks

I was out searching the web for mats/bed liners for me new Quad Cab and came across your page. Great Job...! I will come back frequently for updates - keep up the good work. I love my Quad too! ;-)

Hi Nick, my name is Gary. I am very happy with my 2 WD, 4.7L automatic, Positraction, Quad except for one thing. Poor gas mileage 11 to be exact. I am interested in how poor the rest of your readers mileage is. I took it back to the dealer and they told be to bring it
back at 5,000 miles. I agree with you that break in is very important on the life expectancy of an engine and how often and how you service it. But after a few thousand miles I believe its pretty much settled in. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to watching your site grow. Thank you.

I recently purchased a 2001 Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.7 engine. I too felt that the sticker reflected the best mileage available for the truck in a 4x4 model. In three weeks, I have put on almost 2000 miles. (A long trip to Kansas and back really added to that figure.)

The first thing I noticed was the computer average MPG was not accurate until I figured out how they are getting that average. Watch how much that increases when you go down a hill with your foot off the accelorator. They are averaging all averages to get that figure, kind of misleading. Also, maybe that is how they figure those high MPG they advertise. But wait. On the trip back from Kansas, I filled up in Wichita. After driving over 400 miles and getting home, Just as I pulled into town did the fuel light come on, indicating I had between 3 and 4 gallons left. Figuring the miles driven and the amount of gas I purchased, my Quad Cab got 19.998 mpg. I figure this will improve when broken in at the 5000 mark, but still pretty good compared to what others are getting. I have not dropped below 15.8 yet.

Also, I bought the Penda bed liner, the same company that makes the one for Dodge with the only difference being no Ram Head in the front, instead Penda's logo. Also, was only $179 installed. Well worth it.

Great vehicle and glad I got the 2001 instead of the 2000. Love those 16 inch wheels too, really smooths the ride out. Great deal from the dealer I could not pass up instead of the $750 rebate that Dodge was offering. Must have wanted some 2001's running around because I got it cheaper than a 2000 with rebate.

My girlfriend is thinking of trading in her 1999 Dakota Club Cab for one now she likes mine so well.

You have a very nice website. I purchased my 5.9 L Quad Cab on the 12th of Sept, and
I have already put 4800 miles on it. I drive a lot, but this is a really nice truck. I have the
Patriot Blue paint job. Just wanted to share.

Nick: My name is Don. I am looking to buy a 2000/2001 Dak Quad. Which engine do you have? Is yours 2x4 or 4x4. Biggest question...what is your fuel mileage like? I hear Daks are very thirsty.

Thanks for the info. Don

Hey Nick, thanks for the site.Just got my truck on Halloween, found the truck i was looking for,SLT in Intense Blue Pearl coat. The 4.7 Magnum v8 is awsome! Took some doing but I found it sitting at a dealer about two hours away. Waiting for the cap, paint has to cure.Doing a Herculiner this week,or next if I cant fit it in.Will send you a picture of the hottest looking truck on eastern Long Island,as soon as I get it clean again! Thanks again.

Charles

Hey Nick, Charles here again, A couple of things I forgot to mention last time.First of all i wanted to see if you have seen the slide out trays for pick ups. These are great.I am also in the building buisness,i work with alot of guys that have this system. Its pretty simple, angle iron frame mounted to the bed with steel rollers, another angle iron frame with 3/4 ply . holds up to 2000 pounds,I dont think all my tools combined add up to that!

Second, the first full day with my truck,I was studying all the lines and curves on my lunch break, and i noticed that the passenger sid headlight and signals are not exactly where they should be,the reveal between the bumper and the housing is off. I can run my finger between them on the drivers side but not the passengter side.

The next day i had to go and give the rest of my down payment to the dealer where i bought the truck. While i was there i checked all the Dakotas on the lot, same thing, same side. Then i ckecked all the Durangos since the front end is the same and guess what, those were all uneven too.Asked the salesman if anyone else had noticed this,he seemed surprised that i caught it.I guess 20 years of carpentry does help in other areas.Setting windows and doors does sharpen you observation skills.

Have you or anyone else reading this noticed this on their Dakota? Please let me know what you find on yours.

Charles

hey nick, like the site! i'm on a hunt for a bra 4 my dak/quad. seen any? i really want to protect the paint job, since winter in the city can be damaging.

Just wanted to say that your page is great, please keep doing the updates!! Lastly, I am shopping for the 2001 Quad Cab, and I know what the interior looks like. What does the 2000 interior look like, wondering about the 4x4 lever and the center console? I know the 2001 has 2 cup holders on the floor, the 2000 didnt? Thanks!!

Brian
