A Dodge Dakota Quad Cab Owners Web Site

Outdoors Section
Or.... Let the good times roll!

OBX

To my Quad Friends and Pioneer Members..... I didn't forget you.

This page is an introduction to a section coming to our members site. It will be dealing with what Quad owners are doing and where they're going to have fun and recreation while using their Quads to get there.

This section I believe will be one of the most fun & exciting sections to our site. My hope is that by sharing our stories and experiences we will build an invaluable database of places to go and things to do.... and even places not to go and things not to do.

Also I'll be expanding on this condensed version by going deeper into the mechanics of having fun... the gear, tips, checklists, etc.... because knowing what to do and what not to do.... can save you a lot of bucks and time... and make your excursions just that much more fun.

I'll begin this section with my own experiences to share with you, and I invite you.... Quad owners to write in and share your good times and stories with the rest of us.

The Past Year.. Was A Bummer.

Because of my fathers condition last July, my family.. and my Quad only had the opportunity to go one place and that was Assateague Island in Virginia.

The below pictures are a few of the hundred or so pictures taken at the time. On the coming site, I'll be discussing the number one thing you need to know when taking a trip here. I'll update you with where I stayed and other places to stay, and what to see and do on Assateague Island. Also, I'll be picking out some nice and larger pictures for that update.

Also, I'm considering building a map highlighting the pictures/places for those fellow Quad owners who would like to visit Assateague Island in Virginia.

Assateague Island - Virginia

I didn't get a chance to put my Puppy on the beach on this visit, because of all the other stuff we were doing and because I couldn't justify putting the Quad's paws in the sand for what I thought to be a high access fee for a 10 minute excursion.

But This Year Was.....Different

This July we headed up to Central Pennsylvania for some camping and entertainment. Deep in the coal mining hills of Pennsylvania we found a most interesting amusement park.

Deep in the coal mining hills of Pennsylvania

For the site, we'll be going a bit more in depth about this trip, location, route map and more.

Some special pictures!

2002 Chevy Avalanche

At the park, my daughter got a chance to try out the new 2002 Chevy Avalanche...... she really liked the thing... well you know (or is that don't know) kids.

I finally convinced her to let me get in and try it out. I thought the steering to be a bit weak and though the engine was strong... the performance... in my opinion, didn't quite match that of our Quads. I guess it had something to do with the weight and aerodynamics.

Personally I think it looks.....ehhh..... a bit strange. I was always a believer of the saying... if you ain't got nothing nice to say... then say nothing...but I just have to voice my opinion.... the thing felt like I was driving a log.

Gee.... what other toys are they going to.. think of next?

Maryland Quad

Would you believe I saw another Quad at one of the campsites? No one was home at the time. The license plate was from Maryland. Would the owner of a dark blue Quad, license plate, Maryland... please report to the the service desk...... I mean drop me a line.

I met up with John, a seasoned camper and explorer from Long Island at my stay at the campgrounds. He and his family have been on the road for the past 3 weeks, all over the U.S.

I got an opportunity to talk in depth with him on towing a travel trailer, the equipment and what weight ratings meant to him. Also got some great information on towing and pictures of his towing hardware. Gee I better write this great info down before I forget it all.

Anyway when I upload / update this section for the new site you can look for all kinds of tips and information. What to pack, how to pack, easy and fast food prep, must have camping gear, camp set up, hygiene, your Quad setup, clothing, safety, protection, road and travel tips..... otherwise........ more stuff than you can shake a stick at.

Unusual Stories
That's going to be there to!

Oh...almost forgot, you can look forward to my story about how we packed up and left the campground in the middle of the night... Title: " The Amish Made Us Do It".... talk about strange.. but true.

It's Not Over... Yet!

Well that's not the end, remember that trip to The Outer Banks I was talking about... you know the one I cancelled......well it's back on... and we'll be leaving next week.

If all goes well we'll be crabbing and exploring the bayside of the outer banks. Okay, maybe throw in some fishing. The last time I was there, I almost stepped on a manta ray; you can walk out for blocks and the water only comes to your knees... clear and filled with marine life. I think I'd better get a hold of a raft for this one.

Along with exploring the sites ( Kitty Hawk, etc.) I also plan to do some camping on the shore parks... gee... let me see...doesn't it get real hot on the beach... well... I think it will be fun.

And I really can't wait to put the Quad's feet into some... real sand!
Update 08-08-2001

Whoa... Buddy... I'm Not Done Yet!

Fall is right around the corner... we're looking forward to a trip to Western Maryland for some camping and trout fishing, maybe try my luck on the lake. Gee..... I really want to get back up to Canada, see the falls and do some exploring or maybe head back up to "Sshhaa.mokinnn", Pa... Gosh... decisions.. decisions.

Now It's Your Turn!

To pitch in... that is. I did my part. If you liked reading and seeing this stuff so do our fellow Dakota Quad Cab owners, so get out the camera, be sure to take plenty of pictures and write in with what and where you've been going and having fun.... to share with the rest of us!

Note: Pictures and content may have been reduced in size or removed because of the limitations of this current site... bigger and better on the upcoming DQCOG (Dakota Quad Cab Owners Group) internet site.
