A Dodge Dakota Quad Cab Owners Web Page.

Offline / Support
Original Post 12/020/2000

I never realized their where so many Dakota Quad owners online, I hardly see any Quads on the streets, here in Maryland.

Because of this site's popularity I've been exceeding the data transfer limits allotted /budgeted to this site.

Now I don't have a problem with putting some of my spare time and spare change into this site, cause it's fun, but money is another thing, and that's only because I'm not made of it.

I've got a dilemma, I still have ton more stuff to put up on the site but don't want to go in debt to do it. Not only that .... but I keep coming up with more ideas each day!

A thought I had was to take some sections offline temporarily, switching between sections to be online. Or I could remove pictures temporarily to reduce some of the data transfer and relief some of the cost incurred.

The 2nd option I have is to make it a members site and have a yearly fee.

The 3rd option is to have associate advertising........ don't really like the idea of junk advertising.

Don't really like the 4th option.

If you guys got some ideas and like to let me know your opinions send me mail and let me know.

Update ( 03/10/2001) to this subject, can be found below!

Offline

In order to keep this site open and to reduce my costs I've decided to take some pictures offline and will switch it from section to section. So if you missed the pictures on this visit you will get a chance to see them on future visits, because I will put them back online.

I've been looking into sponsors, or associate / affiliate advertising. It works like this, for every 10 bucks of auto / truck accessories you order from them, this site supposedly will receive 0.50 cents to offset the cost of keeping it online.

One of the first sponsors I've added was J.C. Whitney. I use to buy stuff from them when they were just mail order. I'll be looking for other legitimate sponsors.

So, If you can't find what your looking for local or if you looking to find it cheaper, click on the banner link below and order something.

Right click this page and bookmark it. The banner link has a number I.D. in it to credit this site. When you click the banner you are transfer to their web site. Use the starting page, don't open any other windows because it drops the I.D. and this site won't be credited .... Yep everybody's got a trick.

Hey Nick,
I had a site that grew outta control and had the same problem you do. What i did is i went to sites that have Free Web Pages like Geocities and linked to them. So if you clicked on 4x4 it would go to Geaocities and if you clicked on Owners mail it would goto lets say Angle fire. So spread it around just keep a BACK on each page for easylinking. Hope this helps

Mike P.s. MAybe another web service.

Hi!, Nick, enjoy your site. I have visited your site many time and stop in at least once a week. I've read your offline section and your problem. Also read what mike had to say. I operate a few sites like you and mike and have learned from experience that using free servers like geo cities is a pain. Free host or servers are slow, they throw up banner ads that would make your fine site look cheap and be annoying to your visitors. This would be a shame because your site is one few, and I mean few that you can actually get some useful information from, without a doubt the best in dealing with the Dakota Quad.

Affiliate advertising may be the way to go, especially if it's a reputable company Besides that you'd be providing your visitors a good service because finding quality merchandisers on the net for trucks accessories is difficult. One company I bought stuff from was a total rip and waste of time, they sold me some trash.I write you later about it.

Gee, forgot to tell you i'm driving a 2000 quad slt with a 4.7. Funny how fords & gmc back down at a red light.

p.s. I wouldn't have a problem with members fees.

Nick, I enjoy your site and find having the access to the quality information your site provides is invaluable. If there is any way I can help or assist you just email me and I'll be willing to help in anyway I can.

nick, I think the idea of taking pictures off line is a good solution in order to keep the site free. Since I stop by the site every week or so, if i miss seeing some pictures I'll just catch them the next time there up.

Joseph

nick,

I think you should set up a Quad members site with yearly fees, screw the cheap bastards that are to cheap to pay for quality info. I spent countless hours trying to find good info on the web about my dakota quad, that hours of mine time waste, if i would of spent those hours working i could of easily purchased a high priced exhaust system for my quad.

Dear Nick,

Love your Quad site, it is a fun read and provides good common sense information. As a fellow Quad owner I'd like to do my part and pitch in, send me an address and I'll mail you a check.

Thomas
Keep up the good work.

hey nick, thanks for the info on the site. I have an idea, why don't you make two Dakota quad sites. One could be a scaled down version and one could be a site for just us real proud owners. The free site could use very small pictures or none and the members site could have full page pictures. This way you can keep a free site with little overhead and afford to maintain the members site with the good stuff.

Jason

Nick,

I just order some stuff for my quad from your link to jc whitney. I'll continue to order stuff either for the quad or my wifes durango from your site. Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your site.

Rick

Hello Nick, Enjoy your site. Wanted to let you know Affiliate Adverising is a waste of time. I have operated a number of sites and tried using this type of advertising to ofset my cost in operating my sites. You'll be lucky if it will raize you a 100 bucks in a years time. So I dumped the sites, and put my spare time to better use, that being, My Dquad, family and fishing. My advice is unless you having a lot of fun with the site, you might be better off just walking away from it. Sorry for the bad news.

Patrick

Nick I think jason hit on a excellent idea when he suggested two sites. ...........Gregory

Nick, whatever you do don't exercise the 4 th option, I wouldn't have a reason to get online, Well I would definitely miss the site!

Clint

I've read you offline section and like to say that a great site needs great support, you can count on mine! Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks Guys!
Update: 03/11/01

I deeply respect the above Quad owners who have taken the time to share their thought's on the situation I'm facing and the direction this site should take.

Thanks to the guys who offered to help out monetarily, but I can't take money from you to support and expand this site. I kinda figure it shouldn't be up to a few people .............. I kinda .... like the idea.. of all of us pitching in.

Jason had made a suggestion I've been contemplating for a few months.

As of a few weeks ago I have a acquired the domain name of dqcog.com <-- Check out the promo.

I going to enlist the service of a local internet guru for the purpose of setting up the site. He's going to charge me 45 bucks an hr. to work the site and transcribe my notations to web content ...... of course I'll be checking everything before it goes online, and will continue taking pictures for articles, and I'm still going to personally answer the mail I receive.

The reason for this is that it's the start of my working season (as a contractor) the time for me to earn a real living. I'm going to try to keep his time down to 2 hrs a week, until membership picks up and due will offset my expenses.

Appreciating Your Support,

Nick

p.s. keep that mail coming .................it really makes the day!
