Once the retaining clips have been retracted you can begin to tilt up the upper filter housing.

Tilting the upper filter housing If you can't see this image it's temporarily offline!

Now here's the tricky part... on the hinged side (or what feels like a hinge side) on the side of the box facing the engine are 4 protruding taps...2 of which are interlocking (what the hell for...I couldn't figure why the engineers thought this was needed).

Protruding tabs If you can't see this image it's temporarily offline!

Once you tilt the upper box up a little it will become necessary for you to pull the top housing toward the front direction (bumper) to unlock the tabs. Okay at this point .....you may be tempted to get in there with a pair of diagonal dikes and nip off the little pieces of sh...... but persevere with some jingling and it will clear enough for you to rip it away.

Close up of those protruding taps If you can't see this image it's temporarily offline!

Your newer model quads may not have this little piece of engineering marvel in that case.... take a second to thank God for sparing you and continue with the installation guide

Removing the upper filter housing

Can you feel the power??...... Well your almost...... home free.... my dear fellow quad owners.

Lift out the old filter If you can't see this image it's temporarily offline!

Just grab an end of the old filter and lift it up. Take note of the rubberized flange that makes up the seal of the filter. It's has shoulders that hold the filter in it's place on the lower half of the filter box...note how the grooves of the box and filter seal match up..... you'll want to make sure when you lay down the k.n. filter so it rests and seats like the old filter did.

Now take that K.N. filter..... and lay that baby in place.

Now all you have to do is go backwards in this K.N.filter installation guide to complete this installation.

Be sure to check the filter housing If you can't see this image it's temporarily offline!

Before snapping the clips in place...... check that the front and rear of the upper filter housing.... be sure it runs parallel to the lower housing as pictured above.

If I missed something or made any errors or any of you owners want to add something to this installation guide..... do it... by using the mail form.
