The main reason I put off installing the K&N High Flow Air Filter on my truck until now, was to gather mileage and performance information for this site.

Primarily this was for the purpose of gathering more factual information about the performance of our Dakota Quad Cabs prior to performance additions.

The K.N. high flow air filter was chosen as the first of my performance additions for obvious reasons. Those being it is one of the least expensive and easiest of performance additions a Quad Owner could undertake.

Where I Got One.

One of the first places I went to price up a KN filter for my 4.7 engine was to Salvo's Auto Parts, an automotive chain store in Maryland, known for having reasonably priced products.

I ask one of the clerks that sit at the counter at the back of the store to let me see a KN filter for my truck. He informed me that he hadn't any in stock. (While preparing this paragraph it dawned on me that they probably never even started to stock them, possibly because there were so few request for them.) So my next logical question to him was the cost, which he looked up on the computer, he replied, "$54.00". So that would be ..... $54 + MD state tax = $56.70

I know $56 bucks might sound a little pricey when you're use to paying $12 bucks for a stock air filter. But I didn't exactly scrimp on my decision to buy my Quad........nor did we.

And if it saves $100 bucks in gas for the life of the filter ...... it's not exactly a bad deal. And if you throw in the performance gains to your ego = priceless!

A few weeks later I placed links on the site to performance products online retailers. I started thinking..... if I'm recommending other Quad owners to visit these places to purchase their performance additions wouldn't it ...... be only fair if I used them also.

Well .... I did, I followed the link and I place and ordered one for 43.80 & 4 bucks for shipping. You can see the return mail they sent me below to confirm my order.

Your order number is 1785817.

If I went a little overboard in my explanation of obtaining this filter, that's because .... I wanted to share the little rush I get whenever I order something online... and it finally comes in.

Description

K&N Filter - Inspection - If you can't see this image it's temporarily offline!

The KN filter is packaged in a sealed polyethylene bag, there's a slight oil residue (colorless) clinging to the bags interior in some spots, the first indications of it's mode of operation.

The filter media is a purplish color. And the back light pours through the filter in abundance, an indication of it's ability to allow a large volume of air to pass. The media appears to be a certain type of cloth imbedded on a screen mesh.

On close visible inspection to my naked eye there are no visible openings of any type, an indication of it's ability to filter the smallest of dust particles. As small as a paper filter? ....... Don't know.
